Emmy Winner Wayne Brady Takes On Broadway’s Kinky Boots

Friday night was a big night on the Great White Way in New York City. After over 1,000 performances as Lola, the British drag queen lead in Kinky Boots, Billy Porter made his final curtain call at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre. Kinky Boots, based on the film of the same name, was brought to the Broadway Stage by director/choreographer Jerry Mitchell, book writer Harvey Fierstein, and features music from Cyndi Lauper. A break out hit, Kinky Boots went on to receive 13 Tony Award nominations of which it won a season-high six awards including Best Actor taken home by Billy Porter.

Billy Porter, who won both a Tony Award and a Grammy Award for the role brought LIFE to Lola and set a precedent for all those who follow in his high-heeled footsteps! Friday night after his final performance, Porter passed on the boots to Emmy Award winner, Wayne Brady who began his run on Saturday night.

Kinky Boots continues to spread its message of love and acceptance across the world with 4 additional companies including Canada, Australia, and the UK as well as the highly acclaimed touring production. The KINKY BOOTS NATIONAL TOUR will be back in Seattle April 27th through May 8th at the The 5th Avenue Theatre. If you haven’t seen the show it should be at the top of your list.
