Mean Girls the Musical Is Happening

“Gretchen, stop trying to make fetch happen! It’s not going to happen!”

But according to actress, comedienne, producer extraordinaire Tina Fey, Mean Girls the Musical IS going to happen! At a recent New York Times panel interview Fey confirmed that the musical adaptation of the 2004 hit film is in the works.

“My husband (composer) Jeff Richmond and I, and a woman named Nell Benjamin, have been working on it,” Fey said. And while the project is still in its early stages it will become a reality.

Fey and her husband have collaborated on many projects including “Baby Mama” and “The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.” Richmond was also the executive producer for Fey’s most recent film with Amy Poehler, “Sisters.” Nell Benjamin co-wrote the music and lyrics for the Broadway adaptation of “Legally Blonde” directed and choreographed by the king of Broadway himself, Jerry Mitchell.

While the highly anticipated show is likely still years away from hitting the Great White Way, we can’t wait to see magic come together.
